Annual Holiday Tree Lighting

The South Williamstown Community Association (SWCA) invites the public to our annual Holiday Tree Lighting at The Store at Five Corners at 4 New Ashford Road (Route 7) on Sunday evening, December 8th at 5 p.m. There will be carols to sing, wonderful refreshments provided by The Store at Five Corners, a visit from Santa, activities for kids, and more! For our sing-a-long, we will provide songs on printed sheets and offer digital access; please bring a flashlight so you can see the words as we sing by the tree. This is a family-friendly event with plenty of seasonal spirit

How the Holocaust Changed the Yiddish Language, with Hannah Pollin-Galay

During and immediately after World War II, Eastern European Jews perceived a radical transformation in the Yiddish language. This perception inspired some intellectuals to create dictionaries and glossaries that deciphered the metamorphosis of Yiddish words. Others incorporated this new strain of Yiddish into their poetry and prose. In this conversation, Hannah will explore Khurbn Yiddish (Yiddish of the Holocaust) as a form of Holocaust memory. Following the conversation there will be a book signing.
