On Sunday, March 3rd, 3:00pm to 5:00pm, the Store at Five Corners Stewardship Association will host a free event, “257 Years Young – Photos and Stories of the Store at Five Corners,” at the Store, 4 New Ashford Road, Williamstown.
Upon purchasing the Store in January 2022, the non-profit Stewardship Association started collecting historic photos and documents relating to the Store and the surrounding Five Corners Historic District, recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. The Association is excited to share these materials and to explain highlights of the new historic exhibit at the Store.
Stop by during the event to see early photos and an 1876 map, hear about the exhibit, and enjoy refreshments provided by chef Corey Wentworth, operator of the Store at Five Corners.
Karen Charbonneau, president of the Stewardship Association, said, “We’ve learned so much about the Store itself, dating back to 1767, as well as the entire village that once existed at the Five Corners intersection.”
She added, “For example, on the land directly across Route 7 that is now Bloedel Park, once stood the William A. Morey Store, and on the rise just to the north was the massive Greylock Institute boarding school, later the Idlewild Inn. These were both large buildings and now there is no evidence of them at all. Folks can see photos of these buildings, letters from students boarding in the 1800s, and postcards from guests at the Inn in the early 1900s.”
