During the month of December, local artists from Northern Berkshire and Southern Vermont areas will close the 150th anniversary year of Williamstown’s public library with a group exhibition. Forty artists will each have one artwork on exhibit at the library from December 2 through December 31. An opening reception will be held at the library on Wednesday, December 4, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
The December art show will be the culmination of a year of events that celebrated the library’s 150 years of continuous service to its community. It all began on March 9, 1874, with a collection of 100 books shelved in Cole’s General Store on Water Street. Today, in 2024, the collection of books alone numbers nearly 55,000.
For many years, the library has been privileged to provide exhibition space to talented artists who live and work in the area. These shows have represented diverse artistic forms and styles and have been a source of great pride for the library. Usually, one artist has multiple works on exhibit for a month. The December 2024 show is different, in that 40 artists will be represented. The intention of the upcoming show is to mark the extraordinary relationship between the library and its community of artists, many of whom have exhibited there in the past.
The show will be on view during the library’s open hours. A list of these can be found on the library’s website: www.milnelibrary.org.
